Here's my big driving loop. It's about 130 miles with 55 miles of dirt (because Dusty's gotta dust). It includes blind crests, sneaky corners, roads so remote they haven't had any maintenance in 20 years, some Jeep trails, and a fantastic big jump. I took Powderhound on the loop once before he moved to Utah, he can confirm they're great "Subaroads."

When a road is named "River Rd" it's almost guaranteed to be a good driving road. There's about seven River Roads in the area, I think the route uses four of them.

I need to setup my loop. I just have a collection of favorite roads. One favorite was a tight s-bend leading into a yump. Driving my mother-in-laws Ford Aspire I used to carry as much speed as possible out of the last turn and wide open to the yump. Never did get enough speed for the tires to leave the ground.

Well, the River Rd I live on in MD is also a great driving road, so long as one is careful not to go *too* fast. I won't say the terrible speeds I have done on that road. But they were in fact terrible.
It's the roads own fault though. Most turns are banked, pavement is smooth as butter...

You should go to this.
I'm making the 2 HOUR 40 MINUTE trip, because I'm obsessed with racing.

My yump is on a 1.7-long, dead straight bit of dirt road with no man-made structures and great sight lines beyond the jump. The jump itself is an uphill that sharply levels off. Going in the downhill direction it's so abrupt that even at 25 the car will drop out from under you (painfully). Uphill though it's beautiful. 65 is my max, though there's enough run-up that I could conceivably hit it at 100+. At 65 I'm probably getting a good 40+ feet of distance. And no matter what the car or speed it always seems to come down perfectly on all fours.

No can do. I'm saving up to go rallying in Michigan in October.
(And by the way, I drove 6 hours one way to spectate my first rally. My hotel for the weekend was an hour away, so each day I drove two hours just getting to and from the event. Get on my level ;)

The Aspire would get light and get near airborne at 25, but it's an Aspire so getting over 25 coming out of a corner is a struggle. I think the fastest I ever hit was 35 which was almost good enough. This was a 3 speed auto with a 1.5 so I wasn't setting any records. This was also level ground next to someone's farm so I tried to show some restraint, not much but some. I wish I could find some nice dirt roads nearby with no property nearby.

I believe that to be the third axiom in the Complete Guide to Motoring Enthusiasm.

I have a River Road near me! It's not too shabby, even though high speeds are basically unattainable here. Yes, I know the pictures say Rosendale Road. To me (and everybody who lives here) it's River Road.
The left-hand side fork is one of my favorite turns. It feels like a mini-Corkscrew.

That's awesome. One of my driving roads for years is River Rd and at my job I just started a few months back it is alongside a River Rd that is also pretty good.

How is somewhere in Michigan further from my house in Ohio than my dad's house in Florida is?
